From the red back into the green.
Two Bolton households, two boilers other people had given up on. This is how they described what happened.

Been told it's finished? Ask for a second opinion.
Four quick steps: what the boiler is doing, where the gauge sits, the make and age, and what you've been told. Then call, or send the whole picture in one message.
1What's it doing?
2Read the pressure gauge
The round dial on the front or underside of the boiler. Slide to match where the needle sits.

Start with what it's doing.
Pick everything that applies, read the gauge if you can, and say what you've been told. Notes on what it often points to appear here, with the message written for you.
The message
Hi, I've filled in the second-opinion check on your website. Could you take a look? Thanks
A guide to what to say, not a diagnosis. Nothing is recommended until the boiler has been looked at.
“He didn’t give up and managed to find the problem that others couldn’t identify.”

Good to know
I can smell gas. Who do I call?
Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. It is free and open 24 hours. Open doors and windows, don’t use switches or naked flames, and turn the gas off at the meter if you can. Once it has been made safe, ring R&R about the repair.
I’ve been told my boiler needs replacing. Is it worth a second look?
Often it is worth asking. Several reviewers came to R&R after being told to replace their boiler or after other engineers could not find the fault, and had it repaired instead. Nobody can promise that before seeing it, and sometimes replacing is the right call; you will be told honestly which it is.
How quickly can you come out?
One reviewer rang on a Friday night and was booked in for the next day. Another describes quick appointments and always being on time. Ring, say what is happening, and you will be told when someone can get to you.
Do you carry parts?
Reviewers describe the parts already being on the van: four parts fitted on one visit, and a Friday-night fault fixed the next day within two hours of arriving. If a part is not on board, you will be told what is needed.
Can you tell what’s wrong over the phone?
Sometimes you can narrow it down. One reviewer had his problem diagnosed over the phone before the visit. Have the boiler make, any error code and the pressure gauge reading ready when you ring: the second-opinion check on this site collects them for you.
Boiler playing up? Get it looked at properly.
Say what it's doing and where you are. Been told to replace it? Run the second-opinion check and the message writes itself.
